A Great Place to Learn and Grow
Kaya,
We acknowledge that Hilton Primary School is on Whadjuk Noongar Boodja and that Hilton PS families have connections with many First Nations people and places
Hilton Primary School is a community-focused, Independent Public School located in central Hilton, five kilometres from Fremantle. The school officially opened on 11 September 1950. We now have 390 students, from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our smaller size creates a close and caring school community.
We aim to enhance the lives of our children by fostering a positive self-concept which encourages academic, physical and social development, resulting in successful participation in the school and the wider community. Students are taught our expected behaviours of Courtesy, Consideration and Co–operation through all of our learning programs.
Our teachers aim to provide a full and balanced curriculum that encourages supported risk taking. We recognise that students have a range of strengths and needs and that intentional, differentiated teaching is appropriate in every year level. Our teaching staff are highly motivated and have a wide range of experiences and expertise. They are committed to delivering high quality learning experiences to allow students to achieve their full potential.
At Hilton PS, we teach a daily Literacy and Numeracy block. Our specialist programs include Science, music, drama, visual arts, physical education and Language Other Than English (AUSLAN). Information technology and nature pedagogy are embedded across curriculum areas.
Hilton Primary School provides iPads in and/or laptops as teaching and learning tools from Pre-Primary to Year 6. Each classroom has an interactive white board and a range of other learning resources.
Our youngest students focus on play-based and small group learning, both inside and outside the classrooms. We focus on intentional teaching inside and outside the classroom.
Hilton Primary School is situated on spacious grounds with multiple play areas and authentic, outdoor, sustainable classrooms. We enjoy access to a large native Wild Space in the south-east corner of the school. Our Grounds Committee of staff and parents/carers designs and develops these sustainable classrooms, to enhance teaching and learning. We also value our purpose-built music, art and Science rooms.
Hilton Primary School is supported by a strong and cohesive school community. In addition to funding additional resources for our school, our Parents and Citizens Association arranges many school events (Welcome Picnic, Easter Raffle and our Makuru Winter Solstice ) with a high level of community engagement. The Hilton Primary School Board adds governance to the school and supports Principal decision making.
