A Great Place to Learn and Grow
Hilton Primary School is a community-focused, independent government school located in central Hilton, five kilometres from Fremantle. The school originally opened on 11 September 1950. Catering for around 245 students from Kindergarten to Year 6, our smaller size creates a close and caring school community.
We aim to enhance the lives of our children by fostering a positive self-concept which encourages academic, physical and social development, resulting in successful participation in the school and the wider community. Students live out the ethos of courtesy, consideration and cooperation through all of our learning programs.
To support students to achieve their full potential, teachers aim to provide a full and balanced curriculum that encourages supported risk taking. Our programs are intended to cater to individual student needs, by supporting students through new learning and challenging them to extend their thinking. Our teaching staff are highly motivated and have a wide range of experiences and expertise. The staff are committed to delivering high quality learning experiences to allow students to achieve to the best of their ability.
At Hilton PS, we teach a daily Literacy and Numeracy block. Our school’s specialist programs include music, drama, visual arts, physical education and Language Other Than English (currently, AUSLAN). Information technology and nature pedagogy are embedded across curriculum areas. Hilton Primary School provides iPads in each class from Pre-Primary to Year 6. Senior classes have iPads equipped with keyboards, in order to improve their keyboard skills for online-based NAPLAN, and for the future. We also provide Senior students with laptops for further improving their digital literacy. Other technology used in classrooms includes large screen TV’s, Apple TV’s, Smart Boards and computers. Kindy students focus on play-based and small group learning. Kindy teachers use interactive whiteboards for explicit teaching.
Hilton Primary School is situated on spacious grounds with multiple play areas and authentic, outdoor (sustainable) classrooms. There is a large native bush area (our Wild Space) in the south-east corner of the school. Our Grounds Committee of staff and parents/carers designs and develops these sustainable classrooms, to enhance teaching and learning. We also love our purpose-built music and art rooms and our recently completed Science room and adjacent STEAM veranda.
Hilton Primary School has a very supportive school community. Our committed Parents and Citizens Association supports our school in realising its vision: “to foster a love of learning in a community that is inclusive, nurturing and engaged”. The P&C also arranges many school events such as the Welcome to School Picnic, Easter Raffle and our new Winter Solstice event. Each of these events celebrates community engagement. The School Board adds governance to the school and supports Principal decision making.
Hilton is a changing and growing suburb and the school is changing with the community. As more new homes are being built in the area, many new families with young children are moving into Hilton. Our school has a diverse population. We embrace this cultural diversity, bringing families together to celebrate and share their cultural identity and learning, on Noongar land.
