Soccer Winter Carnival

On the 23rd of June, 2023, 6 schools came to John Curtin College to compete in a soccer tournament. Hilton arrived there at 9:30am and a bit after, all the other schools came, there was East Hamilton Hill, White Gum Valley, North Fremantle, Fremantle and Winterfold. They told us we were playing an 8 aside game and we would play 6 games. The games began at 10:00am and we were all excited and ready to go.

Our first game we were off to a good start, it was against East Hamilton Hill B team and we won 15-2 and we were pretty happy with our start and ready to play our next games ahead. We then played two more games against Winterfold A team and North Fremantle B team, both were wins! We were pumped for the Quarter Finals and were super happy being on the top of the ladder.

We then faced the biggest challenge, playing Quarter Finals and also having a lot of pressure to stay in the competition. We played East Hamilton Hill A team and we were so happy that we won 4-1, we worked really hard and were excited for Semi Finals. We played Fremantle in Semi’s and by then we were just getting ready. We won 3-1 and we were all buzzing with excitement to next play in the finals!

As we walked back to our bags, nervous for the finals we saw North Fremantle A team and White Gum Valley battling in extra time, they had to go penalties and North Fremantle won. We were all so nervous but ready to take on North Fremantle A team. At first we got a shock from them, they’d scored in the first few minutes. At half time we were 1-0 down but made it back with 3 goals scored in the second half, and the final score 3-1. When the final whistle was blown we all jumped up excitement and were so happy, Mrs Reading ran over and hugged us all. This was the first time Hilton Primary won the soccer at the Winter Carnival!

That day we all faced many challenges but we over came them, we all had so much fun and loved playing soccer all day. At the end we got a plaque, we were all so proud of our achievements. A special thanks to Mrs Reading for organising the day, preparing us with all the training and supporting us while playing. Thanks to John Curtain College for letting us use their grounds and to all the students from John Curtin College for coaching and being ref for our games. Thanks to the parents that helped out on the day and on all the trainings too and finally thanks to all the students that participated in the Winter Carnival.
