Winter Solstice

This Saturday we held our Winter Solstice celebration.  We were so incredibly lucky with the weather, and the rain stayed away just long enough for us to enjoy the evening and pack away before the droplets started to fall.

The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year and looks forward to welcoming back the light as the days get longer again.  We celebrate the mid-point of winter and the promise of new beginnings as we move out of the darkness and into the increasingly lighter, warmer days, letting go of things that no longer serve a positive purpose and welcoming intentions and aspirations for the year ahead.  It was wonderful to see so many families and friends from our school community who came to join us for this special occasion.  We estimate that we had over 300 people in attendance at the event, and sold well over 250 hotdogs.

Of course, the magic couldn’t happen without our wonderful P&C Exec team, members and volunteers.  Massive thanks to Cath Fitzhardinghe, Kaya Clifford, Naomi McKenzie, Anton McKay, Leila Reay, Kirsty Ball, Danny Bentley, Tim Stocker, Ray Ward, Ben Kelly, Matt Simpson, Josh Smith, Alan Wolfe, Jason Herris, Ashleigh Muller, Amanda Hodgson, Rachel McShane, Tom McGushin and, of course, Carmel Bochenek for all of the work both behind the scenes and on the night.

Special thanks to Aunty Marie Taylor for her beautiful welcome to country, Brett Collard for speaking to us about the importance of fire, Rob Hunt from Scubayorp STEM Outreach and Grant Rowsell for his amazing didgeridoo playing, both at the commencement of the evening and while we walked the bush trail with our lanterns, searching for fairy houses.

The evening would not have been the same without the wonderful performance from The Stamps: Scarlett, Sofia and Rubina.  Thank you for bringing your enchanting music to our celebration.

Congratulations to the Year 6 fundraising team for their hot drinks stall which was a resounding success, and even required an extra trip to pick up more supplies!

Final thanks to the students who contributed to the Hilton housing boom! Some of those fairy houses would be snapped up in seconds if they went on the market – amazing construction and details!!
